Pediatric cancer — of any type — is considered a ”rare” disease, since the number of children affected is much smaller if compared to the number of adults affected by cancers. For Group 4 medulloblastoma, the best path towards the cure entails synergistic work integrating various labs with laser focus on a shared objective. This is the basis of the Cure Group 4 Consortium, made possible by The Medulloblastoma Initiative, the MBI.
This type of comprehensive and collaborative work has not received much funding until now. The labs that make up the Cure Group 4 Consortium are committed to working together, sharing data even before publicizing them, and accelerating the development of effective protocols with the aim of establishing new treatments over the short term — one to two years — instead of the usual five to ten-year time frame.
